 RAAS Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How is RAAS WorkFlow Manager installed? How many tiers are involved?

RAAS is a two tiered application. The front end is a .NET 1.1 Windows application which is installed on each users workstation. The backend is a SQL 7.0, 2000, or 2005 database. Connectivity from the workstation to the database is made through SQL Data Adapter calls. Q. How is RAAS Configured?

The RAAS administrator will configure up to eight criteria your organization wishes to track for each change requests. for example, you may choose "Release Number", "Customer", "Release Date", "Bug Tracking Number", etc. Anything you wish. (Requester and Approver logins, as well as request date, are captured by default).

Once a request is entered, these configured fields may be used to search for changes waiting approval, and then used as criteria to generate SQL release scripts. For example, using the fields listed above, a script may be generated for "Release Number = 2.5" and "Customer = Base".

RAAS Security is also configurable, allowing you to control who may submit changes, approve changes, create scripts, etc. See the below for additional information on RAAS Security.

Q. What type of security is used with RAAS WorkFlow Manager?

The RAAS Administrator creates a login for each user who will use RAAS:

  • A Windows Integrated login will determine the users windows login and pass that to RAAS for authentication
  • A RAAS Login will prompt the user to login upon launching RAAS

Each user can be granted or denied access to the Submit, Approve, Script, and Administrative pages.

Q.  How is RAAS Licensed?

RAAS is open source and is completely free to use as you wish.
